Days With DeBois

Always Changing

Days With DeBois is a blog where I will post about my life. After turning 20 and being halfway done with college, I have learned a lot about myself and life in general. I want a place where I can show my growth as a person and document me growing up in what will be extremely critical years for my life. I want to tell stories about my life and what I've been through. I want to document the good, the bad, and the ugly. All for the reason of helping people who may be going through something similar. My plan/hope for this blog is to give you guys this raw and new look into my life as I embrace being in my twenties. I hope you join me on this ride.

21 Things I've Learned As I Turn 21

I am always learning and growing. Why not share some of the things that I've learned this year?

  1. You never know who’s going to be your best friend, so give everyone a chance.

  2. It’s okay to cry… a lot. It’s actually good for you, like cry it out.

  3. Everything you go through in life will teach you at least one life lesson, if you are open to it.

  4. Therapy is AMAZING and is so helpful.

  5. You are amazing the way you are, and you don’t need to prove yourself to anyone.

  6. Strength isn’t always physical.

  7. We all go through hard times, and your experiences and feelings are just as valid as anyone else’s.

  8. Don’t compare yourself to anyone else, you are different people on different life paths.

  9. You are worthy, important, and more than good enough just because you exist.

  10. Never take anything (big or small) for granted

  11. I am an outgoing and talkative individual.

  12. The person I was, is still a part of me even though I’ve grown beyond that. Same goes for anyone else.

  13. Brighter times are always ahead.

  14. Life will be never as you imagined it, and that can be good and bad.

  15. It’s okay if you and your dreams and goals change.

  16. Professors are amazing people that can teach you so much more than what the content of their class may teach you.

  17. It’s important that you are kind to yourself, you don’t need to be your harshest critic.

  18. Sometimes we may never get closure about some things.

  19. It’s important to let go of people, things, and memories to move on.

  20. We don’t always get what we think we deserve.

  21. Friendship is the most powerful thing on this planet.

I started this blog when I turned 20. I wanted to document my twenties and I did not expect being 20 to be as eventful as it was. I did not expect to evolve into the person I am. If you taught me any of the life lessons I’ve learned, either directly or indirectly, thank you. I can’t predict what being 21will be like, so cheers to what will be probably be a crazy adventure with a lot of highs and lows. Let’s do this thing.

22 Facts About Me

As I am starting this blog, I realized that you guys are going to get to know me very well. That’s going to come with after each post, and I thought that as I find my voice on this blog and I find out who I am, there might be some things that you might find useful to know about me. These are basic things, but there might be some of you that may come across this blog called Days With DeBois and know nothing about me. There also might be some of you who may only know my name (it’s Kathryn by the way). Point is if you know nothing about me use this as a kickstart in getting to know me better. My Bucket List

Here are 24 things that I plan on doing before I die.

Part of growing up means being responsible and doing adult-like things like getting a job, paying bills, graduating college and so on. Just because I am slowly becoming more and more of an adult with age doesn’t mean that my life is filled with these things. In fact, being an adult means that I have the freedom to do more things and I want to do a lot of them.

I have a list of things that I need to do before I die. Yes, I have a bucket list. All of these are things that I have wanted to do for so long but for some reason have never gotten to them. I put all of them on my list because I know that the only way that they are going to get done is if I write them down and share it with people that I will eventually do these things.

Here is my bucket list filled with 24 things that I am going to do before I die.

  1. Get a passport * done 11.14.2019

  2. Travel outside of the U.S. *done 01.12.2020

  3. Visit all 50 states

  4. Visit at least 5 national parks

  5. Travel to Canada

  6. Have a bonfire on the beach

  7. Name a star

  8. Adopt a dog from the shelter

  9. Do a single push-up

  10. Make a half-court shot in basketball (or a soccer goal from 50 yards away).

  11. Learn how to cook to the skill set of a gourmet chef

  12. Learn how to make a cheesecake (and have it be edible)

  13. Learn how to fish

  14. Learn how to crochet

  15. Learn how to solve a Rubik’s Cube

  16. Learn how to make at least one piece of jewelry

  17. Learn how to sew my own clothes

  18. Meditate every single day for at least a year

  19. Flip or renovate something (a home, van, whatever).

  20. Build something for my home from scratch (a table, a bookshelf, whatever).

  21. Reupholster something

  22. Submit a short story to the New Yorker

  23. Journal every single day for a full year

  24. Publish a book

Not only do I plan on doing these things, but I plan on documenting them as well. As I do each of the things, I will write a blog post telling the story of what it was like doing them. This will be a great journey filled with growth, excitement, and facing my fears. I am excited to see where it takes me.

When I do these things, they will be linked to the blog post where I tell the story all about it. From the start of whatever it was, why I wanted to do it/why it was on my bucket list, and then what it was like finishing the bucket list item. I am so excited to go on this journey and to see where it takes me.

Stay tuned for the blog posts and don’t forget to follow all of the social media @dayswithdebois on Instagram and Twitter to possibly get a first look at when I complete these tasks!
